These are the rules we hold ourselves to. They apply to every article on Indians Times, without exception.
Everything is sourced
Every factual claim we publish names where it came from. We rely on official records, published data, named sources and documents we have seen. Where a source asks not to be named, we explain why anonymity was granted and what the person is in a position to know.
We do not publish claims sourced only to unattributed social media posts, forwarded messages or other outlets’ unverified reporting.
We show the disagreement
When credible parties describe the same event differently, both accounts appear and both are attributed. We do not present a contested claim as settled, and we do not manufacture balance between a documented fact and an unsupported assertion.
Where the evidence genuinely does not settle a question, we say so plainly rather than implying a conclusion.
Corrections stay visible
If we get something wrong, the correction sits at the top of the article with the date it was made. We do not quietly edit a published claim and leave no trace. Our full corrections policy sets out how to raise an error with us.
Updates are logged
Stories that are still developing carry a running update log with timestamps, so a returning reader can see what changed since they last read it rather than re-reading the whole piece.
Separation of reporting and opinion
Opinion and analysis are labelled as such and carry the author’s name. Reporting does not argue a position.
Use of AI
We may use AI tools for research assistance, transcription and drafting support. Every published article is written, checked and approved by a named human editor who is accountable for its accuracy. We do not publish AI-generated reporting without human verification of every factual claim in it.
Conflicts of interest
Writers disclose any financial or personal interest relevant to what they are covering, and are removed from stories where a conflict cannot be managed. Commercial relationships are disclosed inside the article, not only in a policy page.
