Vote theft charge: Congress leader seeks public support for Rahul Gandhi

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) working president Sk. Mastan Vali on Saturday (August 9) accused the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of resorting to gross irregularities in elections and betraying democracy.

Addressing a press conference at Andhra Ratna Bhavan, Mr. Mastan Vali urged the public to support Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s fight on the ‘vote theft’ issue and join the party in this struggle to uphold democracy.

He said the ‘vote theft’ issue clearly involved duplicate voters, fake addresses, invalid photographs, bulk registration of voters at the same address, misuse of Form 6 to register elderly persons as new voters and manipulating voter lists in ways that benefited the BJP. Calling it a grave threat to democracy, he said people should protect their right to vote.

Quit India Day

Earlier in the day, party leaders unfurled the National Flag at the party office to commemorate the Quit India Day. Mr. Mastan Vali said the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi brought all Indians on to one platform and ignited patriotism among them through the Quit India Movement. The incumbent BJP-led government at the Centre, however, was curtailing people’s rights and undermining constitutional values in the name of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

The party, under the leadership of the State Youth Congress president L. Ramarao, also celebrated Youth Congress Foundation Day, by hoisting the party flag, singing patriotic songs and remembering the sacrifices made by freedom fighters.
