Ahead of the assembly election, National President of Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Rajya Sabha member Upendra Kushwaha on Sunday (July 20, 2025) urged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to transfer the responsibility of the party – Janata Dal (United) to his son Nishant Kumar calling him a new hope of the party.

Mr. Kushwaha expressed apprehension that delay in transferring the responsibility can cause irreparable loss to the party asserting that perhaps such a loss which can never be compensated.

The RLM leader used the occasion when Mr. Nishant turned 44. The former Union Minister posted a message on social media platform ‘X’ in which he first wished Nishant and then indirectly suggested Mr. Nitish to transfer the responsibility to his son.

“Information has been received from media/social media that today is the birthday of Nishant, son of elder brother respected Nitish Kumar ji. On this happy occasion, many happy wishes to JD(U)‘s new hope Nishant on his birthday. May God always keep him healthy and happy,”Mr. Kushwaha said in the post.

He further said, “On this occasion, a very humble request to respected Nitish Kumar ji is that understanding the delicacy of time and situation, please accept the truth that now running both the government and the party (together) is not appropriate even for him.”

Mr. Kushwaha added, “He has a long experience of running the government, the benefit of which should continue to be available to the state, this is very important at the moment in the interest of the state. But he should take a concrete decision in time on the issue of transfer of responsibility of the party.”

He pointed that time has now come not in his opinion but also thousands of workers/leaders of his party itself.

“This is in the interest of his party and delay in this can cause irreparable loss to the party. Perhaps such a loss which can never be compensated,”Mr. Kushwaha said.

At present, Mr. Nitish is the national president of the JD-(U) and Raya Sabha member Sanjay Jha is the national working president.

Mr. Kushwaha however did not explain what kind of time and situation, he was talking about but sources close to him said that he was referring to the health of Bihar CM.

Not only this, Mr. Kushwaha also left a note at the end of his message asserting that whatever he is say may not reach him.

“Note – Whatever I am saying, JD(U) leaders may not be able to say it to the Chief Minister and even if some people can say it, then such people may not be able to reach there,”Mr. Kushwaha said.

By writing the note, Mr. Kushwaha has indirectly supported the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) claim that there are people close to Bihar CM does not want him to get the right message.

Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has repeatedly said that Nitish Kumar does not know what is happening around him because four leaders close to him are always surrounded.

Last month, Mr. Yadav had claimed that leaders close to Bihar CM do not want Nishant to enter politics.

Earlier in the day, RLM State Executive Committee meet was organised in Samastipur in which Mr. Kushwaha along wight all office bearers of the party and district presidents of all the 38 districts were present in which it was decided to organise rally in Patna on September 5, at Miler High School.
