Two minors killed in road accident in Devanahalli


Two minors were killed and their father was injured when a speeding private passenger carrier vehicle rammed the scooter they weretravelling on Tuesday in Devanahalli.

The deceased have been identified as Nandan, 13, and his sister Dhanushri, 12, who are class 8 and 7 students respectively at a government school, and the injured have been identified as Muniraju, the father of the minors.

The children were returning home after school around 4.30 p.m., picked up by their father, Muniraju, when the accident occurred. The police said that the duo was not wearing helmets, and Muniraju, working as a wall painter, went to fetch his children from school and was riding triple.

When the scooter reached Sulibele Road in Devanahalli, the driver of the tempo traveller, who was allegedly riding rashly and negligently, knocked down the scooter. Due to the impact, the scooter slipped, and the children came under the moving wheels of the traveller. Muniraju fell on the right side of the road and sustained minor injuries.

Passers-by rushed the children to a nearby hospital, where Nandan was declared dead, and Dhanushri succumbed later.

The tempo driver reportedly fled from the scene, but later surrendered to the police. The Devanahalli traffic police registered a case of hit and run against the driver, charging him for causing death due to negligence and rash and negligent driving.
