Two held for tampering with ATM in Cuddalore

The Cuddalore New Town police on Thursday arrested two persons for allegedly tampering with an ATM to carry out transactions illegally. The duo — identified as Sivaparan Singh, 24, and Avinesh, 28, of Uttar Pradesh — was arrested after being found moving under suspicious circumstances in front of the ATM.

Police said a cloning chip was discovered in an ATM of the State Bank of India (SBI) at Semmandalam near here by a bank official on July 16 following which a complaint was lodged. The police launched an investigation and found that a steel plate had been placed inside the cash dispenser along with a cloning chip.

The team noticed Sivaparan Singh and Avinesh moving under suspicious circumstances near the ATM and arrested them. Investigation revealed that the duo targeted ATMs across different locations by strategically placing iron plates inside the cash dispensing slot, causing money to get stuck.

The two were produced before a local court and remanded to custody.
