Thevalakkara electrocution: KSEB chairman directed to submit report on disciplinary action

Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty has directed the Chairman and Managing Director of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to submit a report on Monday on the disciplinary action taken in connection with the electrocution of a student at High School for Boys at Thevalakkara in Kollam district.

Mr. Krishnankutty told reporters on Sunday that the CMD had been directed to fix the responsibility for the fatal accident and take action.

Shortly after the July 17 accident which claimed the life of 13-year-old Midhun, Mr. Krishnankutty had pointed to lapses on the part of both the KSEB and the school management.

On Saturday, the government had dismissed the manager of the school and entrusted the District Education Officer (DEO) with the school’s administration. A high-level meeting chaired by Mr. Krishnankutty here on Saturday had finalised a slew of measures aimed at improving electrical safety. The meeting decided to put in place measures for better accountability so as to prevent electrical accidents.

‘Complete inspections’

The KSEB and the Electrical Inspectorate have been directed to complete the inspections on all electrical installations near schools, hospitals, government institutions and religious establishments this month.

A safety inspection of power lines will be completed by August 15.
