The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has called for a report from the Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police over an incident at Kanakamma Chatram police station, wherein three women were allegedly assaulted by a head constable last week.
Taking suo motu cognisance of an article on the incident published in The Hindu, the Commission sought a report from the Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police within six weeks. A notice in this regard was issued on July 3.
On July 25, The Hindu reported that three women, one of whom was pregnant, who had visited the Kanakamma Chatram police station to file a complaint, were allegedly assaulted by a policeman. After the incident came to light, head constable Raman was placed under suspension.
