HYDERABAD
The authorities of Telangana Irrigation department, who operate and take up maintenance of the Nagarjunasagar dam, are making arrangements to operate the crest gates of the project at 9 a.m. on Tuesday to commence the spillway discharge of flood for the first time this season.
According to officials, the storage of the reservoir was about 297.7 tmc ft at 9 p.m. on Monday against its full capacity of 312 tmc ft. The project was getting over 1.47 lakh cusecs of flood from Srisailam and about 43,000 cusecs was being drawn for canal systems and power generation, including 29,000 cusecs discharged to the river with power generation.
The authorities are planning to discharge about 50,000 cusecs of water from the spillway.
