Road transport between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana was cut off at some places as many streams were overflowing on the roads causing inconvenience to the public.
Police and the Revenue officials arranged pickets on the main road as some rivulets were in spate due to incessant rains in the upstream in Bhadradri-Kothagudem and Khammam districts. Pickets have been arranged to prevent passengers crossing the overflowing streams, the police said.
Speaking to The Hindu on Friday, Deputy Commissioner of Police K.M. Maheswara Raju said that traffic was suspended for two days on the National Highway as Kattaleru Vaagu was overflowing on the road.
“We allowed traffic on Friday, as the water level was falling. Instructions have been given to the officers to monitor the rainfall in the upstream and flood situation round-the-clock,” the DCP said.
A villager, N. Tirupataiah (31) of Tatimaddi village, Kanchikacherla mandal in NTR District, accidentally fell in Munneru River, which was in spate and was washed away.
“NDRF 10th Battalion, police and the locals are searching for Tirupataiah in the River,” Mr. Maheswara Raju said and appealed to the villagers not to enter into overflowing streams and rivulets and cross the inundated and low-level areas.
Many streams, Gurrala Vaagu, Konda Vaagu, Padamata Vaagu have been in spate, and the police and the revenue officials sounded alert in wake of the heavy rains and floods.
Pickets have been arranged on the main roads at Gampalagudem-Cheemalapadu, Veerulapadu-Nandigama, Tiruvuru-Kambhampadu and other places as rain water came onto the road, the officials said.
