Renuka Singe assumed charge as president of the Kalaburagi District Women’s Congress on Tuesday receiving the party flag from Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Women’s Wing president Sowmya Reddy at a function at the District Congress Office here.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Reddy called upon women party workers to actively promote the State government’s five guarantee schemes among women and help empower them socially, economically and educationally.

“The Congress government has opened the doors for women to live an independent and dignified life. The onus is now on our women cadre to ensure that the benefits of these schemes reach every woman, especially in the rural areas,” she said.

District in-charge Minister Priyank Kharge, who inaugurated the programme, commended the leadership of Ms. Reddy.

“The BJP breaks homes, while the Congress builds them and empowers women to run them with dignity. Under the guidance of strong leaders like Ms. Reddy, the women’s wing of the Congress must continue to strengthen the party at the grassroots,” Mr. Kharge said.

Also present at the event were Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, MLA Allamprabhu Patil, MLCs Tippannappa Kamakanur and Jagadev Guttedar, the former district unit president Lata Rathod, senior Congress leaders and hundreds of women party workers.
