Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin at his residence in Chennai on Thursday (July 31, 2025). She, along with senior party representatives, enquired about the Chief Minister’s health, as he had been admitted to a hospital for a week.
The Chief Minister’s family members, including his son and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and DMK leader and Minister E.V. Velu were present at the meeting. DMDK treasurer L.K. Sudhish and former MLA B. Parthasarathy were among those who accompanied Ms. Vijayakant.
The visit by Ms. Vijayakant and her party functionaries, though presented as a courtesy call, has added a new layer to the political optics in Tamil Nadu, fuelling speculation amid evolving developments in a State that will go to Assembly polls in less than a year.
Last month, the ties between the DMDK and the AIADMK was put to test over a Rajya Sabha seat, and DMDK leaders were open about their disagreement with not being allotted a seat. The AIADMK eventually maintained that “the DMDK would continue to be part of the alliance led by the AIADMK”, and assured that it would allot a Rajya Sabha seat to the party in 2026.
It may be recalled that recently, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader S. Seeman had called on Mr. Stalin at his residence to express condolences over the death of the Chief Minister’s sibling Mu. Ka. Muthu.
Mr. Stalin, who was admitted to a private hosptial in Chennai following giddiness during his morning walk, was discharged last week. He visited the Secretariat on Thursday and continued to discharge his official duties.
