AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Saturday expressed shock over the death of Rajaraman, a special sub-inspector (SSI) of police who was assaulted in Egmore in Chennai on July 18.

In a post on X, Mr. Palaniswami said Rajaraman died after failing to respond to treatment and alleged that the incident showed that there was no safety for police personnel under the DMK regime, and again showed that the law and order situation in the State had deteriorated.

The attack on the policemen and the resignations and misdoings in the department being expressed in the public domain all showed that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is incapable of handling the police portfolio, he alleged. Mr. Palaniswami urged the Mr. Stalin-led DMK government to conduct a fair probe into the incident and ensure appropriate legal action on those involved.

In a separate post on X, Mr. Dhinakaran demanded that those involved be arrested and punished. He also urged Mr. Stalin to take immediate measures to curb drug trafficking, and illicit liquor sales, among other activities.
