The outflow from the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) near here has been increased to 85,000 cusecs following a rise in inflow and in view of the continuous rainfall in the Cauvery catchment area, according to a note issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Mandya.
A flood warning issued by the authorities cautioned not only people residing along the banks of the river, but also prohibited people from visiting low lying areas.
The farmers have been asked not to venture or let their cattle near the banks of the river or the low-lying areas. People have also been cautioned against visiting the banks of the river or the bridges. Swimming in the waters and taking selfies near the river has also been prohibited, the statement added.
The water level in the reservoir stood at 123.85 feet at 8 p.m. on July 27 against the full reservoir level of 124.80 feet. While the inflow into the reservoir was 74,946 cusecs, the outflow was 85,952 cusecs, including the release of water to the canal and drinking water supply.
