Vizianagaram Joint Collector Sedhu Madhavan on Monday (July 28) asked all the officials of Agriculture, Marketing, Legal Metrology and others to conduct raids on fertilizers shops located in Vizianagaram, Denkada, Pusapatirega, Bobbili and other places as the government received many complaints from the farmers about the sale of the fertilizers at higher rates.

Dealers who were indulging in malpractices would be punished in accordance to rules and regulations, he said. He visited shops located in Denkada and other places. Vizianagaram Agriculture Officer V. T. Ramarao inspected shops located in Terlam, Badangi and other places.

Speaking to The Hindu, he said that a few dealers were selling fertilizers more than MRP in spite of repeated warnings from the government. “We booked cases on two dealers and seized 3.74 lakh worth of fertilizers after observing malpractices in their shops. The raids will continue in all mandals as special teams were formed to ensure supply of fertilizers at subsidized rates fixed by the government,” he added. The farmers who have grievances can inform the control room — Mobile No.8331056279 — for necessary action on errant dealers, he added.
