Nine farm workers killed, 10 others injured after mango-laden lorry overturns near Railway Kodur

Nine people were killed on the spot and ten others were critically injured after a lorry carrying a load of mangoes to a pulp industry overturned near Reddipalle Cheruvu in Pullampeta mandal of Rajampeta division in Annamayya district late on Sunday (July 13, 2025) night. All the deceased and injured were agriculture workers engaged in harvesting mangoes.

The accident took place when the lorry from Rajampeta to Railway Kodur lost control and turned turtle. At the time of the mishap, the lorry was carrying an overload of mangoes of about 40 tonnes, with twenty workers seated on the top of the mango load.

According to the preliminary investigation, the police suspect the negligence of the driver and reckless driving responsible for the tragedy.

According to Railway Kodur police, the overloaded vehicle lost control while negotiating a hairpin bend at the Reddipalli village tank and overturned. The crates of mangoes fell on the workers, crushing eight of them to death on the spot.

It was a harrowing time for the police and local people who rushed to the spot to carry out the rescue operation at midnight, which continued till the small hours of Monday. An earth mover was deployed to retrieve the lorry from a ditch and clear the debris to pull out the deceased and the injured.

The killed workers were identified as residents of Settigunta village in Railway Kodur mandal. The injured were rushed to the government area hospital in Rajampet for treatment.

According to the preliminary investigation, the police suspect the negligence of the driver and reckless driving responsible for the tragedy.

District in-charge minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy spoke to the medical officers at Rajampeta and district authorities about the tragic incident, asking them to extend quality medical care for the injured, and if necessary shifting them to corporate hospitals for better treatment. He further said that the government would extend all necessary assistance to the bereaved families.
