United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Aryadan Shoukath took an early lead of 419 votes when counting of votes polled in the Nilambur Assembly byelection began at Mar Thoma Government Higher Secondary School, Chungathara, on Monday (June 23, 2025) morning.

Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate M. Swaraj and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC)’s independent candidate P.V. Anvar were in the second and third positions, setting the tone for the rest of the count.

UDF increased its lead to 1,725 votes in the third round of counting, giving an indication that there will be no sweep in favour of either UDF or LDF.

UDF workers started celebrating at several parts of Nilambur.
