Members of the Nagapattinam Bar Association staged a protest on Monday in front of the District Court, condemning the recent conduct of Justice G.R. Swaminathan of the Madras High Court. The protest was led by Bar Association president P. Satish Prabhu.
The lawyers strongly objected to the judge’s alleged derogatory remarks made in open court against senior advocate K. Vanchinathan. Holding placards and raising slogans, the protesting lawyers demanded that Justice Swaminathan recuse himself from hearing any proceedings related to inquiries into his own conduct.
Over 60 advocates took part in the demonstration expressing solidarity with Mr. Vanchinathan and demanding the withdrawal of contempt proceedings initiated against him.
