The State government on Wednesday informed the Telangana High Court that ₹ 26.97 crore had been paid to persons who had supplied fish seed since 2023.
The amount was released after Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar of the HC issued Form-I notices to three IAS officers, the Collectors of Nagarkurnool and Wanaparthy districts and Fisheries department Deputy Director for their personal appearance as the fish seed suppliers filed a contempt of court notice. Earlier, the judge directed the government to release the funds to fish seed suppliers.
As the government failed to release the money, the petitioners filed the contempt of court case. Two IAS officers, the Special Chief Secretary for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Sabyasachi Ghosh and Fisheries Commissioner Priyanka Ala appeared online in the contempt case and informed the judge that the money had been released to the petitioners.
The petitioners’ counsel D.L. Pandu explained to the court that the total dues to be paid by the government to the seed suppliers would be around ₹100 crore. Petitions of some more seed suppliers were pending for adjudication. The government responded only after the HC issued Form-I notices, advocate Pandu said.
