The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Prohibition Enforcement Wing, Mayiladuthurai, M. Sundaresan, has alleged that he is being harassed by senior officials for serving honestly.

On Thursday (July 17, 2025), a video clip showing him walking to his office went viral on social media platforms. The officer claimed that he was deprived of his official vehicle by senior officials on the pretext that it was required for escort purposes. Later, addressing reporters, he alleged that he was being harassed by district officials under instructions from two top police officers, including an Intelligence and a Law and Order officer of Tamil Nadu in Chennai, for serving honestly.

Mr. Sundaresan claimed that he had booked 1,200 prohibition cases during his tenure in Mayiladuthurai district and had cracked down against smuggling of liquor.

The DSP had earlier served with the State Human Rights Commission. He was tasked with inquiring into the alleged assault of two political functionaries at the Sivakanji police station in Kancheepuram district and the “encounter” deaths of three persons in the murder of Bahujan Samaj Party Tamil Nadu president K. Armstrong in Chennai before being transferred to Mayiladuthurai.

‘Wrong information’

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters, District Superintendent of Police G. Stalin denied the DSP’s allegations and termed them as “wrong information.”
