Minister in charge of Mandya district N. Cheluvarayaswamy said on Thursday that the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) will be upgraded with additional beds and funding for its expansion and renovation.
He was speaking after a meeting held in Bengaluru with Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil and Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao regarding the development of MIMS and its hospital. Both ministers assured Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy that all necessary support would be provided for the development of the medical college.
At present, the MIMS hospital treats over 800 patients daily despite being a 400-bed hospital, and it needs to be upgraded into an 850-bed facility, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said.
Responding to this, the Medical Education Minister directed officials to renew environmental clearance and submit a proposal to upgrade it to a 500-bed hospital as a first step.
Officials were also directed to prepare a detailed project report covering the construction and renovation of the emergency and minor surgery units, cancer treatment unit, laundry facilities, and additional wards besides power supply upgrades.
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao also instructed officials to upgrade seven taluk hospitals and Primary Health Centres across Mandya district.
MLAs Ramesh Bandisiddegowda, Ravikumar Ganiga, Darshan Puttannaiah, Uday Gowda, MLC Madhu Madegowda, and others attended the meeting, and shared their views on the college’s development. The ministers directed Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar to oversee the implementation of the decisions.
Principal Secretary (Medical Education) Mohammad Mohsin, Principal Secretary (Health) Harsh Gupta, and other officials were present.
