Malaprabha water to be released for crops


Minister for Women and Child Development Laxmi Hebbalkar has instructed Irrigation Department officials to release 4.5 tmcft of water from the Renuka Sagar dam on the Malaprabha for the standing crops.

At the Irrigation Consultative Committee meeting here on Friday, she told officers to release water for 17 days from July 18 evening. Around 20 tmcft of water in the dam is reserved for drinking purposes. She said she would urge farmers to use the water wisely.

C.C. Patil and Bhimsen Chimmanakkatti, MLAs, committee members and others were present.

Meanwhile, water release from Maharashtra into the Krishna and tributaries reduced on Friday. The total discharge was 81,005 cusecs, lower by over 5,900 cusecs compared to Thursday’s 86,913 cusecs.

The average inflow into Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir on the Krishna in Almatti was 95,868 cusecs and outflow was 89,074 cusecs. The dam had around 99 tmcft of water or around 80 percent of full capacity.

Inflow into Basava Sagara dam in Narayanpur, has an inflow of 90,000 cusecs and outflow of 90750 cusecs. The dam has around 29 tmcft or 88 percent of water.
