
The leopard cub found dead at a shed at Anakkallu near Vazhikkadavu, Nilambur.
A leopard cub’s lifeless body was discovered in a shed near a house at Anakkallu in Nilambur on Monday. It was presumed that the mother leopard had brought the cub to the shed, which belongs to P. Yohannan. Forest officials from the Pothukallu station took possession of the carcass for further examination.
A committee was formed as per the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). The committee comprised Nilambur North Forest Divisional Officer P. Dhaneshkumar, Nilambur South Forest Divisional Officer G. Dhaniklal, NTCA nominee and wildlife expert from MES College, Mampad, Anoop Das, Chief Wildlife Warden’s nominee and wildlife expert Hameed Ali O., government veterinary surgeon Noushad Ali and assistant forest veterinary officer Shyam.
Mr. Dhaneshkumar, the DFO who oversaw the post-mortem process, said that the NTCA protocol was strictly followed in the necropsy conducted under the leadership of Dr. Shyam. The carcass was buried after the post-mortem examination. Forest officials attributed the cub’s death to natural causes.
