A landslip struck Kundagal in Hosanagar taluk on Saturday, cutting off the only road the local residents had to reach to other parts of the village.

A few days ago, the residents noticed a huge crack in the hillock. MLA for Tirthahalli Araga Jnanendra visited the spot on June 17 and urged the district administration to send a team of experts to analyse the situation.

As heavy rains continued to lash the village, the cracks developed further, and a part of the hillock was displaced, damaging the road. The residents said they lost the road connectivity to the rest of the village. They were worried that if the situation persisted, the plantations below the hillock would be affected.

Ravi, a resident of a Nagara hobli, said the cracks were noticed during the rains last year. However, nobody took it seriously then, he said.

“This time the cracks developed within a few days after rains. Now the road had been displaced, and we are worried about our houses and farms,” he said.
