All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C. Venugopal, MP, has alleged that Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar is turning Raj Bhavan into Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters.
Speaking to mediapersons on Friday, Mr. Venugopal said that Mr. Arlekar had not been appointed Governor to implement the RSS agenda. “Rajendra Arlekar had a political past before becoming Governor. But once he assumed the position, he should not act as an RSS volunteer. The Governor holds the highest constitutional office in a State. It is dangerous that the Governor himself is leading the State in a perilous direction. He is deliberately dragging the Governor’s post into controversy. It is wrong,” Mr. Venugopal said.
When unconstitutional activities were taking place centred around Raj Bhavan, why was Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan not bringing the matter to the attention of President Droupadi Murmu, the Congress leader asked. “Why is the Chief Minister hesitant to inform the President and Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the seriousness of the issue? Ministers going to Raj Bhavan and returning is nothing but part of a drama,” he said, adding that the Chief Minister and the government were unable to respond to the Governor because they were afraid of the Union government.
Backdoor appointments
Mr. Venugopal alleged that the Left Democratic Front government was making backdoor appointments to government jobs. “Out of the 33,000 vacancies reported annually in public sector institutions, appointments to 23,000 posts are being made through the backdoor. The CPI(M) is appointing its people, relatives, and loyalists. The government is driven by selfishness and vested interests,” he said.
Mr. Venugopal also said that Shashi Tharoor, MP, was unable to participate in the Nilambur Assembly bypoll campaign as he was on an official overseas tour.
