Due to heavy rain, the Belagavi district administration has declared a holiday for anganwadis, government, private and aided primary and secondary schools and pre-university colleges in Belagavi, Kittur and Khanapur taluks for Thursday.
Heavy rain continued to lash parts of North Karnataka on Wednesday. High intensity rainfall was witnessed in Khanapur in Belagavi district.
Mandoli village in Belagavi taluk received 161 mm of rainfall, Peeranwadi 100 mm and Belagavi City recorded 65 mm of rainfall.
Water levels in the Krishna and its tributaries increased on Wednesday following additional water release from Maharashtra.
Officials estimated that water release crossed 92,050 cusecs (8.3 tmcft). That is 21,603 cusecs more than Tuesday’s discharge of 70,987 cusecs.
There has been a significant increase in the levels of water reaching the Lal Bahadur Shastri Reservoir on the Krishna in Almatti.
Average inflow and outflow was 70,435 cusecs. The current gross storage is 76.5 tmcft or 62% of the full reservoir level of 123 tmcft.
As much as 70,000 cusecs of water flowed into the Narayanpur dam, while outflow was 65,180 cusecs. Impounded water was measured at 26.6 tmcft or 80% of the full capacity.
The Raja Lakhamagouda Reservoir on the Ghataprabha in Hidkal recorded 26,420 cusecs inflow and 134 cusecs outflow. The dam has 48.9 tmcft of water against the full level of 51 tmcft.
Inflow into the Renuka Sagar dam was recorded at 7,014 cusecs and outflow 194 cusecs. The dam has 14.2 tmcft of water against the full level of 37 tmcft of water.
