Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P. Narayana on Friday said that the State government is determined to bring revolutionary changes to the urban landscape of Anantapur despite financial constraints.
The Minister, who took part in the “Suparipalana Tholi Adugu” initiative here, said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s administration has proved to be a landmark of sorts in giving good governance. “As part of our election promises, we are delivering roads, maintenance of drainage system, drinking water, and a plethora of welfare schemes to the people irrespective of political affiliations,” he added.
Mr. Narayana asserted that the government is focusing on key welfare programmes, which include free LPG cylinders, NTR Bharosa pensions, revival of Anna Canteens, and Thalliki Vandanam, apart from the mega DSC for the recruitment of teachers.
He highlighted that women and youth employment were accorded utmost importance, in addition to the revival of mega irrigation projects such as Polavaram and Handri Neeva, and other projects linked to ports, finishing harbours and airports, steel plants and railway lines. “Industries would always remain the backbone of the economic revival. Very soon, we are going to change the face of the State,” the Minister said.
Later, the Minister reviewed the civic works under the Anantapur corporation and other municipalities in the district. At a review meeting with officials of housing and the municipal departments, the Minister directed them to identify availability of additional lands within the Anantapur Hindupur Urban Development Authority (AHUDA) limits for developing MIG Layouts and boost urban infrastructure.
He reiterated that the officials should focus on quality land close to urban centres and be ready with plans to create roads, drainage, and other basic facilities for the proposed layouts. Mr. Narayana said that smaller municipalities would also get special attention and receive funds to ground balanced development.
