In a development likely to cause fresh trouble for the Congress and the Youth Congress, Kannur District Congress Committee (DCC) general secretary K.C. Vijayan has accused Youth Congress leader Vigil Mohan of using forged voter identity cards in the Youth Congress State election and misusing the Wayanad relief fund collected by the party.
The controversy erupted after a voice recording reportedly posted by Mr. Vijayan in a Sreekandapuram Block Congress leaders’ group surfaced in the media. In the audio clip, Mr. Vijayan accuses Mr. Mohan and other Youth Congress leaders of cheating their way into leadership positions using forged voter ID cards.
He also alleged that there was lack of transparency in the collection and utilisation of relief funds for the Wayanad landslide victims.
The incident follows the resignation of Thiruvananthapuram DCC president Palod Ravi in the wake of a leaked phone call. Meanwhile, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph urged party leaders to be cautious in their statements.
