The Kalaburagi Police have arrested five accused, including a minor, for killing a 78-year-old woman who was residing alone at Pethshiroor village in Chittapur taluk of Kalaburagi district and and recovered stolen property.

The deceased was identified as Jagadevi Revanasiddappa Laali, a native of Pethshiroor.

Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu, addressing a press conference here on Sunday, said that the five accused Tanaji Bandgar, Vijaykumar Karegol, Lakshman Talwar and Sanjeev Kumar Karegol, were arrested by the Madbool Police. All the accused are aged below 25.

Though the accused tried to show the woman’s murder as natural death, the police collected evidence and reconstructed events that led to the crime and determined the real cause of the death.

It was found that the accused made an attempt to manipulate the crime scene to make the murder appear as natural death. They also used rear entrance of the house to enter and exit it.

As per the police, on July 10, 2025, the accused entered the elderly woman’s house and strangled her using a sari, stole her gold ornaments, including a necklace, earrings, a nose ring, and ₹21,000 in cash. And, the police have recovered the gold ornaments and ₹5,500 in cash from the accused.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to having targeted women residing alone. The accused also told the police that they used to commit crimes to fund their lavish hobbies.
