Farmers hold tractor march in Punjab against State government’s land pooling policy

Farmers on Wednesday (July 30, 2025) staged a ‘‘tractor march” across Punjab on the call given by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) against the Punjab government’s land pooling policy, demanding its withdrawal.

Farmers accused the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of adopting an anti-farmer stance, which they termed as “unfortunate and unacceptable”.

“Farmers came out in large numbers across all the districts of the State to express their resentment against the policy, which the government is attempting to impose without any consensus. We firmly oppose it. They are attempting to take our fertile land through this policy, which we will not let happen at any cost,” said senior farmer leader Jagmohan Singh.

Other farmer outfits, including SKM (non-political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), also extended their support to the SKM’s call and participated in the tractor marches at several places.

Demanding withdrawal of the policy, KMM leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said, “The Punjab government wants to build concrete structures on the fertile lands of Punjab to benefit the corporate bosses. We will not give our land,” he said.

The Opposition parties in Punjab have also been targeting the AAP government over the policy. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh demanded the immediate scrapping of the land pooling scheme.

In a statement, he said the BJP would launch a state-wide agitation to protect the interests of farmers.

“This is not a policy, it’s a betrayal. It’s an official tool to snatch their ancestral lands. Let the AAP government hear this loud and clear, we will not let them grab even an inch of Punjab’s farmland,” he added.
