Social media is, at times, a very toxic and draining place where some bluntly spew hate on others. What makes it even more infuriating is that such people are often not made to pay the price for their actions, thus enabling them to go on fearlessly. And needless to say, celebrities are the ones who mostly end up being these trolls’ favourite punching bag. Although most prefer to ignore such comments, television actor and Bigg Boss alum Devoleena Bhattacharjee recently decided not to simply turn a blind eye to such vile remarks, particularly when they targeted her infant son. Furious over comments mocking her seven-month-old baby’s skin tone, Devoleena took to her Instagram stories to name and shame the trolls, thus taking a strong stand against it.
Ever since the birth of their baby, Joy, Devoleena and husband Shanawaz Shaikh have never missed a chance to share glimpses of their happy moments on social media, thus delighting their fans as well. Recently, she shared a new batch of photos with her little one, noting just how much Joy has changed her. “7 months of holding my heart outside my body. From those tiny fingers wrapping around mine to sleepless nights filled with snuggles — every moment has been pure magic. You’ve turned my world into a soft, beautiful chaos I never want to escape from. Here’s to growing together, one giggle, one cuddle, one milestone at a time. You, my little love, are my greatest journey,” she wrote.
Although most comments the photos received were positive, with people expressing their genuine happiness and love for them, some took the opportunity to showcase their colourist mentalities and, in some cases, religious bigotry. Enraged by such comments, Devoleena later took to her Instagram stories to expose their identities and give them fitting replies.
Reacting to the Instagrammer who called her son “little aatankwadi“, she wrote, “Yeh hai so-called musician. And yaa doggo enthusiast. Bhagwan inse jude sabhi musicians ka bhala karein and dogs salamat rahe. Yeh apne apko tag mention nahi karne dete par dusro ke posts par apni low life ki manasikata bakhoobi darshate hai (He is a so-called musician. And he is a dog enthusiast. May God bless all the musicians associated with him, and may the dogs remain safe. He doesn’t let you tag him, but he shows his low-life mentality very well on others’ posts).

To another person’s vile remark, she replied, “Yeh engineer hai Delhi se. Kis cheez ki engineer yeh toh yehi jaane. Itne paise kharch karke engineer banne ke baad bhi zindagi aur soch dono nahi sudhar paayi bechari. In jaise agar engineer hain toh samajh jao bhavishya kis disha ja rahi hai (He is an engineer from Delhi. Only he knows what kind of engineer he is. Even after spending so much money to become an engineer, his life and thinking did not improve. With engineers like him, then realise in which direction the future is going).”
Responding to a woman who made fun of her child’s skin tone, Devoleena wrote, “Ab inke liye kya bolu. Yeh khud ek maa hai jaise hi aap sab inke profile mein dekhi hi sakte hai. Bas inka baccha innke iss bimari ka shikar naa bane bhagwan se yehi prarthana karti hun (Now what should I say for her. She is a mother herself as you can see in her profile. I just pray to God that her child does not fall prey to this disease).”
Renowned for her role as Gopi Modi in the soap opera Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, Devoleena was also a part of Bigg Boss 13, 14 and 15.
