The State government will seek sanctioning of two defence corridor projects for Karnataka during the meeting of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday.
The two defence corridors being mooted are the Kolar-Chickballapur region and the Hubballi-Belagavi region. “As the country’s leading contributor to the aerospace and defence sector, Karnataka deserves two defence corridors — one each in north and south Karnataka,” Industries Minister M.B. Patil told presspersons here on Tuesday.
He said that Karnataka should have been granted a defence corridor on merit when Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh were allotted the corridor projects. “Even the Central government has realised the oversight and Mr. Singh himself has acknowledged this. It also came up for discussion when the Defence Minister participated in the Global Investors Meet in Karnataka earlier this year,” said, clarifying that Karnataka was not against projects being sanctioned to other States. “We are demanding what Karnataka rightfully deserves.”
