In an effort to strengthen community policing and enhance ground-level vigilance, Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh on Tuesday said that he has instructed all station-level officers to undertake foot patrolling during weekends and festive seasons in sensitive areas.
The directive is part of a proactive policing strategy aimed at deterring crime, improving public interaction, and increasing the visibility of police personnel in sensitive and high-footfall areas. Such initiatives help in building trust with the public and ensure quicker response to emerging situations, a senior official said.
As part of the initiative, Mr. Singh said that jurisdictional police sub-inspectors along with the regular patrolling staff should go on foot patrolling in crowded areas during weekends and festive seasons, especially in the evening. “This will not only improve public-police interaction but also build deterrence to anti-social elements and mischief mongers. Studies show that the police presence on the ground reduces crime rate and improves law and order situation,” he said.
The senior police officials have also been instructed to map sensitive areas in their jurisdictions and deploy foot patrolling to improve the effectiveness of policing in these areas.
This initiative will complement the regular patrolling system where Hoysala patrolling staff stationed at the specific locations would rush to respond to any eventuality within a few minutes, Mr. Singh added.
