The Rajagopalnagar police have arrested five people in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old man during a drunken brawl last week.
The accused have been identified as Karthik, Shashank, Sagar, Kushal, and Darshan, all aged between 20 and 24.
According to the police, the victim, Arun, is a friend of the suspects, some of whom were unemployed and others were working as delivery boys. Arun was as a cab driver.
The incident occurred near a private school at Lavakusha Nagar in Laggere on July 20. The suspects attacked Arun with machetes and wooden logs, leaving him critically injured. Passersby admitted Arun to a private hospital, but he succumbed to injuries on Friday.
Following Arun’s death, the police took up a murder case and arrested the suspects following Arun’s death.
An investigation officer told The Hindu that all the suspects and Arun were drunk, and a fight broke out among them over a petty issue. “The argument turned violent, and the suspects assaulted Arun on his head, chest, and face. He succumbed to head injuries,” the officer said.
