Continuing investigations into the rowdy-sheeter Shivaprakash murder case, BJP MLA and one of the accused in the case, Byrathi Basavaraj, was questioned on Wednesday. This was the second time the MLA was appearing for questioning in connection with the case.
Basavaraj appeared before Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Prakash Rathod, the investigating officer in the case, at the Bharthi Nagar police station and was questioned for over two hours.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Basavaraj reiterated that he had nothing to do with the murder. “I was asked several questions and I replied to them. I have been served a notice to appear before the police whenever called. They haven’t given a date. I have assured them of my full cooperation,” he said.
Asked about his alleged affiliation, Mr. Basavaraj replied, “I am reiterating that I have no connection with any of the suspects-arrested or absconding in the case. I am a representative of the people, and anyone can take photographs with me. That doesn’t mean I am connected with them. The police have summoned me as I was named in the FIR. I have cooperated with them and will cooperate in the future.”
Shivaprakash, a realtor and rowdy sheeter, was brutally attacked and killed near his residence in Meanee Avenue Road in Bharathinagar in East Bengaluru on July 15. A total of 11 suspects have been arrested by the police, including the five who initially surrendered claiming responsibility for the crime.
Meanwhile, Seven accused were produced before the court and were later sent to 14-day police custody. One of the accused, identified as Kiran, alleged in court that he sustained fracture injuries on his leg due to police torture in custody. The court directed the police to get the medical treatment for the injuries and submit a report in this regard.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the prime accused, rowdy-sheeter Jagadisha, who is on the run.
