Following an outbreak of jaundice in the Master Para locality of Agartala, the West Tripura district administration and several government departments are launching measures to contain the public health issue. The State government has instructed officials to inspect the affected area and provide support to affected residents.
Fifty-two people have been diagnosed as ailing from jaundice in Master Para, which falls within the Agartala Municipal Corporation limits, West Tripura District Magistrate Vishal Kumar said on Sunday (June 29, 2025). After visiting the affected area along with several government officials and public representatives, Dr. Kumar spoke to media persons.
The outbreak could be the result of contamination of drinking water by leakages in supply lines passing through the sewerage system, he said. A house-to-house survey had been launched to identify the infected people and provide them with medical support, while the relevant authorities were working to check the water supply lines, Dr. Kumar said.
Master Para falls within Chief Minister Manik Saha’s Assembly constituency. Officials inspected the area on the directions of the Chief Medical Officer.
The condition of the jaundice patients is not serious, Health Department officers said, after visiting them at their homes, and as in-patients at hospitals. Ambulance services have been kept on standby to transport patients to hospitals, if required.
