Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya, who are now divorced, first met on the set of their film Ye Maaya Chesave. It was during the shoot of this 2010 film that the couple fell in love and after years of courtship, they got married in 2017, and divorced in 2021. Now, 15 years later, the film is up for a re-release and while fans were expecting that the former couple might get back together for the promotional spree, Samantha has shot down the idea and said that she won’t be promoting the film “at all.”
In a chat with Bollywood Hungama, ahead of the film’s July 18 re-release, Samantha was asked about the rumours of her promoting the film with her ex-husband. She said, “No, I am not promoting Ye Maaya Chesave with anyone. In fact, I’m not promoting the film at all.” She added that, perhaps, the fans wanted to see the “lead pair together” but she can’t live her life as per the audience’s expectations.
She said, “I don’t know where this talk is coming from. Maybe fans of the film want to see the lead pair together. But one can’t live one’s life through the audience’s lensing of life.”
It was after Ye Maaya Chesave that Samantha Ruth Prabhu tasted success in Telugu cinema and she recalled that she still remembers every day from the shoot of this film. “I really remember every single shot. The first shot I did for that film was at the gate, with my character Jessie meeting Karthik (Naga Chaitanya) for the first time. And I remember everything about it—every single detail. It was fantastic working with Gautham Menon, who knew exactly what he wanted and how the character should come across,” she said.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya had a seemingly beautiful love story, and later, they even had a dreamy wedding, which ended in a divorce. After her divorce, Samantha appeared in a 2022 episode of Koffee with Karan where she expressed that the equation between them was not amicable. “Like if you put us both in a room, you have to hide sharp objects? Yeah. As of now, yes,” she said.
In December 2024, Naga Chaitanya married actor Sobhita Dhulipala.
