Twelve children of private school in Kampalapura in Periyapatna taluk, near here, suffered injuries after the school van they were travelling in fell into a roadside ditch, near Chilkunda junction, on Wednesday morning.
The police said the van was proceeding to the school after picking up the children in Habbanakuppe village when the accident occurred.
Passersby and people working in nearby areas rushed to the accident spot and pulled the children out of the vehicle. The injured children were rushed to the Hunsur taluk hospital for first aid before they were brought to Cheluvamba Hospital in Mysuru for treatment.
“Ten of the children were treated for injuries in Mysuru. Fortunately, the injuries were minor in nature and children were discharged after treatment at the hospital,” said a police official.
The police suspect that the accident could have occurred due to to rash and negligent driving by the driver.
